Just a quick observation from Bowman Fork in Millcreek Canyon. I’ve been curious about what elevation the PWL has been destroyed by rain saturation. What i found in North facing protected terrain in Millcreek today was basically a frozen block of snow at the base and up to 15 inches of well bonded snow from the most recent storm up to almost 9000ft, as high as I got today. The new snow came in warmer at lower elevation and bonded well to the old frozen surface. Once you get below 8000ft it’s still not completely seized up and has saturated grains but I figure by tomorrow morning it might all be seized up. Last time I was in this same terrain was the day that the PWL was covered by the thick slab that was so reactive for a week or so. I was experiencing all the red flags that day mainly cracking and collapsing, you could feel the loose pile of facets under the new snow, nothing like that today. I was experiencing the same sorta scenario in Cardiff yesterday, it would be nice to know if this set up is widespread or terrain dependent.
