Comments
Rode upper MLH zones Fri, Sat, Sun on all aspects, but mostly in trees. Common theme was cracking and big collapsing, from low angle to tight tree lines, to meadows. Collapsing happened everywhere especially on Saturday 2/21, where we even saw 2-3 collapses in the same spot while stopped in meadows. Main point is the snowpack is super sensitive and will create avalanches, including remote triggers and long run outs. Also noted the new snow becoming more cohesive and forming slabs. this was even more obvious on solar aspects. Snow depth ranged from 120-165cm in and around bald mtn, reids peak, loft peak and murdoc basins. All areas had varying depth of facets but pwl was everywhere and risk is super high. We kept most riding limited to 20-25 degree trees max and i would recommend keeping it under 25 for a while, knowing what’s above you. The collapsing we experienced all weekend was scary and is an absolute red flag that steep slopes will definitely avalanche!!! Be safe out there
