Comments
Headed up the Bowman trail around 12:30 today, there was about 5 inches at the parking lot at 6000ft, snow totals increased to 15 inches of light density snow just below 8000ft, which is as high as we got. As soon as we were above 7000ft and in old faceted snow we started getting collapsing, cracking and soft sluffing on the gully walls. There was zero wind effect in the terrain covered but we were remotely triggering powder slides that were running on the old faceted surface from a distance, this led us to not going any higher. If your in N facing terrain that holds facets your in the bullseye for avalanches. I thought this was to low for hazard but we were wrong, I’d be suspect of any avalanche terrain that has old existing faceted snow no matter what elevation your at.
