Problem #1 Comments
While skinning up a ridgeline adjacent to the Upper Mary Chutes we triggered a shooting crack, collapse, and whump. We also noted the debris and crown of a recent small (D1) avalanche in the adjacent chute. Moderate winds from the south were gusting intermittently and visibly transporting snow onto the ENE aspect where we triggered the shooting crack. We decided to dig a pit and do a further assessment.

Comments
The 30 cm of recent snow on the top were a thin wind skin, then fist hard, 4 finger hard, and 1 finger hard. Our layer of concern was 30 cm down at the new old interface on a F1 hard facet layer (the January Drought Layer). Beneath that the snow was faceted and 1F to pencil hard. Total depth was 141 to 186 cm. We did note hip deep boot penetration stepping out of our skis. Pit results: ECTN20 and CTSC down 30 cm at N/O interface on F- facets (January Drought Layer). We performed an ECT and found non-propagating collapse at 20.
