Comments
Went to have a look at No Name Bowl today, knew that it was wind protected from the SW winds due to its orientation and figure it had less of a load than the higher more exposed terrain. We also took into account that the bowl was totally faceted out from a previous visit last week. If there was any slab we were going to leave it be due to the extremely poor snowpack structure. We determined there was no slab just medium density powder on top of a few feet of facets , we proceeded to cut it and skied . The second skier triggered a fast running sluff that was basically a facet sluff with new medium density snow mixed in, fairly benign. As we were hiking out low clouds rolled in and the greenhousing began, by the time we reached the top, the whole slope was saturated by the intense sun shinning through the thin, moist clouds. We decided that at this point in time the new snow had formed into a connected slab and with the poor underlying, faceted , snowpack underneath decided it was time to leave. The greenhousing was pretty intense on the PC ridgeline and might require a few clear, cold nights to dry it out. The exit out the W facing was windboard with the new snow on top and the bottom could be readily felt.
