Weather and Snow

General Conditions: It was another very mild day in the mountains on Sunday. Temperatures were in the 40s with calm to light wind from the west. Riding conditions remain generally poor. Check out the two backcountry observations below for more detailed information:

Mountain Weather: We'll have increasing clouds with high temperatures in the mid 30s today. Wind will be from the southwest in the light to moderate speed categories. We have a weather pattern change in store with a number of small events moving through over the next two weeks that will bring small amounts of snow with each one. The first real chance for accumulation is Wednesday into Thursday, where we could see 2 to 4 inches of new snow.

Description

Currently, there is no real threat of avalanches. Looking forward, our focus will be on all the faceted snow that has formed over the last month and how it reacts to future new snow loads. At some point, I expect to see avalanches breaking into this weak faceted snow. Before that can happen, we need significant new layers, and that looks like it is going to be a slow and drawn-out process. With the future storms looking fairly minor, I'm not seeing a huge spike in the avalanche danger this week.
