Under clear skies temperatures are in the high 20's F. Winds are blowing southerly 20 gusting to 30 MPH at the 8000' ridgelines.
Today will bring increasing clouds and 2-4" of snow later this afternoon. Temperatures will be 33-37 F. Winds will blow from the southwest 25 gusting to 40 MPH at the 9000' ridgelines and 40 gusting to 70 MPH at the 11,000' ridgelines. The freezing level will rise from 4,000' to 7,000' during the day.
With temperatures above freezing forecated in the Provo area mountains I wouldn't be surprised to hear of wet loose avalanches on steep road banks or other locations that are protected from the wind.
The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory effective until 5:00pm on Wednesday. This afternoon's southerly flow storm will bring higher density snow favoring the Provo area mountains before winds shift to the northwest bringing lower density snow Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday.
Yesterday observers in the Provo area mountains reported sensitive cornices collapsing remotely from ridge lines.
