Heavy snowfall and strong winds last week have created dangerous avalanche conditions in the Abajo Mountains and human triggered avalanches remain likely. The recent snow has overloaded a pre-existing snowpack that was comprised of loose, sugary, faceted snow. This unstable structure exists on all slopes that held snow prior to last week's storm cycle, primarily slopes facing northwest, through north, through east. Slopes steeper than 30 degrees should be avoided in these areas.
