Snowbird Mountain Guides AIARE Level 2
AIARE 2 is a 3-day advanced avalanche course designed for backcountry travelers ready to sharpen their decision-making in more complex terrain. Building on the AIARE Risk Management Framework introduced in AIARE 1, this course prepares you to take on a leadership role within a small group, navigate complicated terrain and create solid travel plans even when resources are limited. You’ll learn to make your own snowpack interpretations through snowpit observations and stability tests, while expanding your understanding of the snowpack's formation.
To maximize learning, AIARE 2 group sizes are kept small: field groups are capped at 4 students per instructor, with a maximum of 12 students and 3 instructors per course.
Snowbird Mountain Guides' avalanche courses follow the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education Curriculum, as standardized by the American Avalanche Association.
