Progression of danger roses for the Salt Lake mountains for 2/9- 2/15. (Click on the day of the week for the archived forecast for that day.)

Friday Saturday Sunday Monday Tuesday Wednesday Thursday Low Low Moderate Moderate Low Moderate Moderate

Summary: Felt like a real winter with three storms in a week!Snow totals for the past week in the Cottonwoods include 30" of snow with 1.75"water. For many, the best riding conditions of the season. The persistent slab problem discussed all season becomes dormant, (but hasn't gone away.)

Snow/Water totals for the week include:

Upper Elevations of the Cottonwoods* 30" 1.75" Park City Ridgeline 20" 1.2"

* Mid elevations in the Cottonwoods received roughly half these amounts.

Friday Feb 9 - Benign weather with overcast skies.

Saturday Feb 10 - Overachieving storm delivering 6-7" fresh snow with up to 0.4" water in the upper elevations of the Cottonwoods. Minor wind drifting and sluffing in the loose snow.

Sunday Feb 11 - Clear with increasing southwest winds in the afternoon. Despite the moderate to occasionally strong gusts, very little fresh wind drifts were noted.

Monday Feb 12 - A repeat of the Saturday storm with another 6-7" storm totals (0.4" water) at the upper elevations of the Cottonwoods with very little wind.

Tuesday Feb 13 - Cool, clear, and windlesswith only minor wet and dry loosesluffs.

Wednesday Feb 14 - Winds out of the southwest increase ahead of next storm system.

Thursday Feb 15 - The biggest over-achieving storm so far this season. With ~16" snow (containing 1" water) reported throughout the Cottonwoods and Park City mountains. Sensitive wind drifts from persistent west/northwest winds load upper elevation leeward aspects. Avalanche activity involves fresh wind drifts, soft slabs, and sluffing. All activity occurring within storm snow. [Mark White photo]

Biggest question now is has the load from this past week been enough to overload buried weak layers?
