Saw a large crown on Gobbs that wrapped around the most northerly aspect of Davis gulch towards lookers right trending to bobsled. The photo isn't super clear but the crown propagated to multiple fall lines/ zones and it was rather large. It likely failed on the rain crust near the bottom of the pack. We dug and got CT23 ~18 inches down. No propagation on an ECT. Gonna be hairball if/when winter shows up. No major loading event in the forecast but eventually we will hit a tipping point and this is going to be a major problem layer. Last photo also shows the upper crust which would fail on like CT 5-8 or so, and also may start to be a problem. The top of the pack is faceting quick and in a few days is going to be loud. Not sure when this slide happened but I would guess a few days after the YJ slide as whoever saw that one likely put in the skinner we took today, and didn't report this one. Maybe it was an animal trigger too. Definitely some deer/moose tracks/ poo on the skinner.
Pics show the crowns (zoom if you can) to the left and right of the cliff outcropping/trees (I think it trends downhill from left to right) (also could be 2 slides..) , a block, and some layers, snow was fist from the top transitioning to 4 finger old sun crust 8 inches down, then an icy rain crust at like 18" , with big facets on both sides of the crust/fist hardness. See the video.
Lot's of cracking and collapsing all day but no real cohesion currently. Also, if you ski up here be prepared to really fight the vegetation on your way out. Godspeed.
