Snow Profile Comments
Great skiing today, but going to be an issue with more time/loading. It seems this graupel layer is here to stay and could cause some prolonged and unpredictable instability with active patterns on tap.
Comments
Triggered a point release in the new snow/graupel interface traversing Temptation Ridge towards AF twins to ski the glades between Columbine Bowl & Birthday Chutes. Kicked it off during our skin over and it ran down the gully - we assumed it would've slowed/stopped a few feet below our vantage point...it did not. Saw the full slide after skiing down that ended up running about 500 feet, 10 feet wide and 1 foot deep. Would classify it a D1.5R2 from the field. This would be extremely problematic on a steeper slope, which tells me that there may be a weak layer present on southerly slopes now. Video below provides some commentary on the characteristics as well.
