After skiing Memorial 1 with no signs of instability we ascended to memorial 3. As we gained the ridge between memorials 2/3, two members of the group felt a nice collapse, the first one of the day. Shortly after the slide broke considerably far from where we stood, about 20' downhill and 40' to our side. We watched the slide from our safe spot as it slid into memorials 3 and 4. Had the slab been a bit more stubborn, we very well could have traversed onto it and been caught. We assumed the slide just flushed out the line, but were surprised to find it had ran full width, over 1500' down to the ice bulge below memorial 5. This was the longest slide I have seen in this area, and would have been quite a nasty ride.
This is a perfect example of how variable our snowpack is. We broke trail into North's fork and up memorial 1 with no signs of instability. A slight aspect change and things were as touchy as they could be. We skied the debris and called it a day, triggering a few more small slides on the exit.
