With moderate winds forecast today, wind slabs may form on upper elevation leeward slopes. Because existing snow surfaces range from wet snow to icy crusts, you'll want to pay close attention to how well the new snow is bonding. Avoid fresh wind drifts on steep slopes, especially where the existing surface is slick or icy.

weather

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the mountains north of I-80. The Ogden zone may pick up 6 to 12 inches with locally higher amounts for elevations over 8000 feet by tomorrow morning. The rain/snow line will hover near 7000' today before dropping this evening as two cold fronts move through. We might get a bit of thunder and lightning too. Expect snow showers today with snowfall becoming heavy late this afternoon through tonight. Temperatures will stay near freezing before dropping into the teens tonight. Winds will be less robust than yesterday blowing 10-20 mph out of the south before turning westerly this evening. With the temps slowly falling throughout the storm, we should end up with great, right-side up conditions tomorrow and hopefully about foot of powder to play in.
