Advisory: Abajo Area Mountains Issued by Eric Trenbeath for Wednesday - March 29, 2017 - 7:22am
bottom line

Today there is a MODERATE danger in steep, upper elevation terrain that has recent deposits of wind drifted snow. And with daytime heating a MODERATE danger will develop for loose, wet avalanche activity on steep, sun exposed slopes. Look for signs of instability such as roller balls or pinwheels, and sloppy wet snow, and stay off of and out form under steep slopes when these signs are present.

Today

Areas of blowing snow before noon. Patchy fog before 8am. Otherwise, sunny, with a high near 37. Breezy, with a north northwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Tonight

Mostly clear, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Thursday

A 50 percent chance of rain, mainly after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 44. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south southwest 15 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 30 mph.

Thursday Night

Rain likely before 8pm, then rain and snow likely between 8pm and 9pm, then snow after 9pm. Some thunder is also possible. Patchy blowing snow between 2am and 3am. Low around 22. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of 2 to 4 inches possible.

Friday

Snow. High near 30. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday Night

Snow likely, mainly before midnight. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 23. Chance of precipitation is 70%.

Saturday

A 50 percent chance of snow. Patchy blowing snow between 8am and 11am. Partly sunny, with a high near 35.
