Advisory: Abajo Area Mountains Issued by Eric Trenbeath for Thursday - February 9, 2017 - 7:29am
bottom line

The avalanche danger is mostly LOW this morning but will rise to MODERATE later in the day as sunshine and warm temperatures increase the likelihood for loose wet slide activity on sun exposed slopes. Look for sign of instability such as roller balls, or pinwheels and wet, sloppy snow. Stay off of and out from under steep slopes when these signs are present.

The snow surface is getting tired and worn from the wind and sun and a variety of crusted surfaces abound Overall snow depth now ranges from 2-4' across the range.

Dustin Randall was out earlier this week and sent in this observation.

Today

Mostly sunny, with a high near 36. West southwest wind 10 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Tonight

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 36. Breezy, with a south southwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Friday

Mostly cloudy, with a high near 47. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph.

Friday Night

A slight chance of rain before 10pm, then a chance of rain and snow between 10pm and 2am, then a chance of snow after 2am. Cloudy, with a low around 32. Breezy, with a southwest wind around 25 mph, with gusts as high as 35 mph. Chance of precipitation is 50%. New snow accumulation of around an inch possible.

Saturday

Snow. High near 36. Breezy, with a southwest wind 15 to 25 mph becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%.
