Advisory: Abajo Area Mountains Issued by Eric Trenbeath for Tuesday - January 24, 2017 - 6:53am
bottom line

The avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE and human triggered avalanches are likely in steep, wind drifted terrain. Be on the lookout for fresh drifts and unstable wind slabs on the lee sides of ridge crests and terrain features such as gully walls, and sub ridges on all aspects in upper elevation, wind exposed terrain. At mid elevations, the danger remains CONSIDERABLE on steep slopes that face NW-E-SE. The avalanche danger is MODERATE at low elevations.

The Abajo/Blue Mountains received 2' of snow over the weekend. Blowing snow from strong winds on Monday have created deep drifts and dangerous avalanche conditions. Backcountry travelers need to possess excellent route finding skills, and avalanche terrain should be avoided.
