Headed up Buttler Fork this morning thinking there would be some kind of premature corn or at least softened wind board on E-SE facing Raymond, wrong again. got there to late and was punching through the damp snow farther than I liked. Between the heat, no wind and a shallow refreeze last night the window of opportunity was fleeting. Changed plans and went to the summit of Gobblers Knob, main face was wind hammered and tracked out but on closer inspection realized the Cabin Run had not seen any ski traffic since the last storm. The upper starting zone in the Cabin run is thin and completely faceted as was the surface snow on the whole slope, but there was still enough structure to the base to keep you off the dirt on the main run, good skiing but the rime-rain crust still remains but has broken down enough for it not to be a factor in skiing quality. Exit was out Baker Springs, which was faceted out top to bottom, then down Pole Canyon into Porter Fork, somewhat of a painful ordeal getting out, but good adventure. Photos.
Starting zone on the cabin run about 10 inches deep, about 3 feet on the main face.
Ski bottoming out to the dirt on the up track, fully faceted sugar.
Good skiing in recrystalized wind board
Decent pic of the Glide avalanche off the Raymond Slabs.
Mineral Room of Doom with the rime crust shinning in the sun.
Brown town south facing Millcreek.
