Comments
I found a stable snowpack with no presistent weaknesses where we traveled in Deer Valley and along the PC ridgeline. The drier storm snow from this past week was buried underneath the dense storm snow from overnight and early morning, but the old snow surface was not especially weak and I was unable to get any clean shears at the interface of the new and old snow. I think the old snow surface is the weakest snow in this early-season snowpack, but it is not especially weak and should continue to strengthen. The snow down near the ground is rounded and damp.
Photo and video of snowpack structure.
Assigning a danger rating is tricky. There wasn't enough new snow and any wind drifts were unreactive, so the danger was Low where we traveled. *IF* there was more snow and wind drifts, I could easily see at least a Moderate danger, with areas reaching Considerable during any period of high precipitation intensity.
