Snow Characteristics Comments
Still very nice snow on shaded slopes with about 10-12 inches of settled, new snow on a supportable, old surface. Everything is pretty tracked up but there's plenty of places to find good snow. Snow surface is getting sun crusted on all sun exposed aspects, east, south, west.

Red Flags Comments
The only concern was the foot-or-less of new snow sliding on the old, hard surface and especially on the old faceted snow surface from the protracted snow drought before the snow this past week. The new snow feels a bit slabby under the skis and poles with medium density upper snow in the upper half of the new snow and then punching through through a low density layer within the lower section of new snow and then into the soft faceted layer beneath the new snow. Yes, there's lots of persistent weak layers under the new snow but mostly the new snow just doesn't weigh enough and/or not cohesive enough to create much avalanche hazard. I would still be suspicious, however, of steep slopes that received a load of wind deposited snow, which could act very different. I was mostly in wind protected areas up to 10,000 feet so I don't have any information from the upper, very wind exposed slopes above that. Most of the usual slopes have copious tracks and people are starting to push into the upper elevation steeper terrain such as Tri Chutes and the northwest face of Red Baldy. No one was triggering avalanches as far as I could see. Seems like moderate danger on all the places I could see today. But I would still be suspicious of avalanches a foot deep or so on the steep slopes, especially wind loaded slopes. I did not observe any slopes today with any problems with wet avalanches but I was mostly on northerly facing slopes. I'm guessing there are some wet snow hazards on steep slopes facing the south half of the compass.
