A quick update from a quick tour this morning before the day's festivities...
Clouds were definitely moving above the ridgeline, winds light to moderate out of the SW. The rain/snow line was around 6500ft, with 2-3" of new snow up to 7500ft or so. This seems to be consistent with the 3-4" at the Ben Lomond weather station and 6-8" reported at Snowbasin and Powder Mountain. New snow was dense, damp graupel, but emphasis on the dense.
Pit in the photo below was ~7200ft on ENE aspect. There's about 60cm of snow on the ground, rightside up (F down to 1F at the ground). While I'm not super stoked at what the rain and warm temps did for snow height, it seems we'll be set up pretty well as the waves of moisture continue to come in over the next few days. Once there's enough coverage, I think riding below 7500ft should be a fairly low risk option. As it is, it's still pretty low tide and the skiing featured lots of squishiness with deep ski penetration.
The best game in town would be lift-accessed backcountry if it were safe right now. But, given the poor snowpack structure at the high elevations, the actual best game in town is probably inbounds skiing. Thank a ski patroller when you see them. They've got their work cut out for them for the next week.
