Comments
The snow structure is poor on most aspects and elevations, there just isn't much of it on S and SW at all elevations. The last round of snow delivered about 5" in the area preceded by a whole lot of wind. We skied some really nice snow on low angle ESE and then exited down a ridge with some northerly terrain that fell off one side of it and had many collapses and shooting cracks, some opening up wide enough that we could see the lower snowpack beneath like mini crevasses. Particularly on High elevation northerlies in the area stability is quite poor, especially where the terrain has seen some wind action (more or less everywhere to some extent). Earlier in the day we had collapses on SW too but on that aspect it seemed less connected than on the northerlies with a heck of a lot less snow to be potentially involved.
We dug on a somewhat sheltered (sparse aspen grove) West by Northwest aspect at 9500', 32 deg, HS 90cm: ECTP19, ECTP24 on Fist Hardness 4mm cupped facets/Depth Hoar (12/11/20 interface, 40cm above ground).
