Beautiful morning out there with the sun and thin clouds moving in and out. New snow over night was low density and about 3-4 inches. The new snow did not show any evidence of wind, but there were wind drifts below the new snow from just prior to the storm arriving yesterday afternoon. Only experienced a small amount of cracking in the wind drifts along the upper reaches of the west ridge of Patsey. The new snow was sluffing on steeper slopes, but there wasn't enough of it to cause any problems.
Dug a few hasty hand pits just below the ridge line on the north facing side of Patsey. Also did some pole probing here and there. Snow structure was actually pretty good on the upper face and not really faceted in the holes I dug. This is quite a bit different than the snow pit I dug in the trees below earlier this week. Seems like the wind may have blown away and/or compacted the November snow on the exposed section of the face, which has resulted in a much better snow structure up high.
By the time we left the entire north face had been skied wall to wall with no evidence of instability. For today the danger in the areas traveled was moderate. If the forecasted wind and snow play out tonight the danger will likely be considerable tomorrow.
