Went out to just dig around since most of the skiing is pretty grim after the slight Thanksgiving refresh.
The amount of variability in our snowpack has been mentioned by Bruce and it's very apparent, though the common denominator is the snow is weakening quickly.
From my travels around the Brighton Perimeter on Thanksgiving the thermal crust and windboard was still apparent on N/NE @10K, though underneath that layer the facets were apparent as was the faceting in the midpack. Faceting was also apparent on the SE under the heat crust. Additionally stripped starting zones were all facets. I left thinking that with the weather forecast it's all going to crumble apart into a sandbox.
Fast forward to today, where I dug the crusts seem to be weakening. You can still identify where they were, but the snowpack is faceting out. Today's cold temps, high pressure, and skiff of snow only adds to the faceting process.
If and when we get a big load it's going to get real out there, and given the variability and weak snow across the compass it will not just be on the northern half since we have snow across compass that is deteriorating in strength.
