New snow today was skiing great even on slopes just over 30 degrees to the north, however new snow isn't holding to well on the old and likely faceted snow, base is stronger than mid pack but seeing plenty of faceting which might be a big issue when the storm cycles truly hit.

Went out to east bowl pass via grizzly, found excellent skiing conditions and not to bad stability at least around 30-33 degrees, and in sheltered trees. Was pleased to find the new 4-6" not too wind hammered this morning and what Id call "cold smoke" quality, however when I dug a very quick pit on my skin back up I did find the new snow not holding onto the old, as expected. The base of the snowpack was certainly old snow but from the ground up about 6-8" was almost fist hard, and as it went up it gets easier to punch through. Interested to see how this snowpack reacts when we get a real storm, and avoid steep convex slopes cause they seemed ready to release some stress when someone hits it right and aren't very filled in. overall good riding on the north end for now, exiting through grizzly gulch is a nightmare however. If you plan to ski off the N end of the main ridge from superior all the way to twin lakes pass the exit down the south will be horrifying, best to keep on the ridge til you get to the cat road until things fill in. phone died mid pit from the cold but here's a pic or two of the snow on a card from the middle of the pack, and the quick fist test.
