Snow Characteristics Comments
Investigated new snow stability and basal facet presence on upper elevation NE facing terrain along Santaigo Ridge. Lots of evidence of yesterday's loose dry/soft slab activity but only in the most isolated gullies was debris more settled any deeper than the new snow. Most everything I saw could be argued to be under D2. HS @ 9700' about 135cm with 38cm of storm snow at 12:00 today. New snow was reactive to compression tests at interface which was already plenty obvious. I've been sticking to the shade but encountered a thin brittle crust in several locations that could have helped encourage the slab properties we've seen on some slopes. Investigating at the ground revealed variable distribution of basal facets. Where they were found these appeared to be wetted, bonding, and were unreactive to CT and ECT tests. Schussing was probably best of the season. Thank's Jesus.
