We skinned up the ridge to the looker's right of Lazy Days in Days Fork, knowing that we wouldn't be able to ski either Lazy Days or the open, steeper terrain to looker's right of us (off the ridge). We wanted to see how (or if) the snow was settling. Answer: in big "whoomps." As we got to around 9500 feet, where the ridge gets steeper, we heard the tell-tale signs of the weak layer as the snow collapsed and saw a crack (pictured) shoot out across the face of the steeper, open snow. At that point we didn't see a need to dig a pit as the weak layer was speaking to us. Instead we turned, hugging the ridge to get down to lower angle slopes and out. Anyone thinking of skiing steeper, N/NE-facing terrain in Days (like Days Draw)...please don't.

Comments
Snow is settling and growing in density but it's not retiring that persistent weak layer. Also saw evidence of the warming snow as rollerballs (NE slope looking down into Lazy Days) were common. We later skinned over to Doughnut Falls to skin that lower-angle, treed terrain. The snow quality was great (until the bottom, where it thins to maybe one foot in depth, prompting us to boot out the last bit), and the safety level was much higher.
