Comments
Wanted to see for myself what happened in upper Cardiff during the storm, decided to go from BCC because I didn’t know if any of the N facing entries into Cardiff from LCC had avalanched and felt good about the long walk after seeing no avalanches in the N facing entries from LCC. The list of avalanches in the Cardiac area are as follows, Cardiac Bowl wall to wall late in the storm, multiple mid storm avalanches on Cardiac Ridge including Hansens and the main run off the top, kaleidoscope bowl just east of Cardiac Bowl, and the NW facing shot just south of Holly Moly. Some large portions of the ridge and LSB NE facing had not avalanched. Also of note were two large avalanches off the rock slabs above Ivory Flakes which I examined the crow on and determined it ran on the October crust and a sum what surprising slide on the SE facing chute off the top of High Ivory. Cracking and collapsing was still a constant when traveling through terrain with old faceted snow underlying it, and surface hoar is forming on shady slopes.
photos: the two avalanches off the rock slab and part of the crown, Cardiac Bowl, Cardiac Ridge, cracking and collapsing, and surface hoar development.
