Lots of new snow. See photo below. I measured 17 inches of new snow since Wednesday (3/14)

Photo below shows new snow since Wednesday (3/14).

The snowpack is still shallow and baseless in many places. Second photo of Zach shows him standing on the ground. When we would step off our sleds, we would sink to our waist.

Major red flag for today was drifting and blowing snow. I saw evidence of drifting very low on the Mirror Lake Highway. See first photo below.

Second photo shows snow drifting much higher on the highway.

Third photo shows new snow depth on the highway.

Last and most important, this load of new snow had added weight to the snowpack.

More weight = more stress = greater chance of triggering bigger deeper avalanches.

Weak faceted (rotten) snow is easy to find. It propagated a fracture across my column.

ECT - Extended column test

P - means it propagated a crack across the whole column, a bad sign

21 - It took 21 taps for it to happen. The number of taps is far far less important compared to whether it propagated a crack or not.
