Snow Characteristics
Snow Surface Conditions
Melt-Freeze Crust
Snow Characteristics Comments
Supportable crust on baldy where we dropped around 10,600'. Beneath the crust was 10 to 12 cm of damp snow. Grauple layer seems to be the weakest layer as it poured out of the 35 degree slope we dug into. September depth hoar is 3 to 5 mm and observed some chaining. I am concerned the crust and damp snow will bridge the next slabs weight before failing, allowing for larger avalanches.
