Snow Characteristics Comments

Snow stayed good on most aspect yesterday except for a zipper crust on due south below 9500ft, today SW,S and SE got damp and will be crusted in the AM. The snow has also settled out and breaking trail was about boot top deep. I'm sure the higher elevations had some wind damage from the wind yesterday and today.

Comments

Went to E facing Kessler today, seemed that a lot of the big avalanche paths ran during last weeks storm, and the steep upper portions sluffed out heavily near the end of the storm cycle. The snow on the SE facing was starting to go off around 10:00am and was quite damp and starting to roller ball by our exit at 1:30. There were some minor wet point releases but nothing too concerning if you stayed off of the SE facing and didn't spend to much time underneath steep SE facing terrain. Looked for weak layering in the snow pack but found only the density inversion from earlier in the weak and it was not very reactive. I'm thinking that the higher wind exposed terrain is settling out and healing rapidly, but the jury's still out on the lower elevation protected terrain that is harboring buried facets or surface hoar, these problems tend to take a little while to go away.

Photos: roller balls and wet activity on the SE facing, and I haven't' seen this area filled in this much in at least ten years, sometimes you just have to show a pretty picture but I won't make a habit of it.
