Went back to Cardiff because its the only place left where I can find some skiing, Skied E facing in the sun first, kinda same deal as Tuesday, light density snow on the surface rotting out slab underneath, becoming more unsupportable with time. The surface snow is not as bad as I would suspect after a few cold clear nights but the whole pack on the east facing is getting quite loose. Whole different deal in Cardiac Bowl N facing, dug a quick pit in the starting zone, right below the 2 entry chutes at about 10,800ft N facing. The pack is much more layered in the main bowl and the facets at the ground are not near as loose or deep as most of the places I've dug pits this year. Basically there's a thin layer of facets at the ground that are more sintered than expected, about a foot up is the rime crust capped with wind slab about a inch or so thick but really stout, I was sliding on it while hiking up and had to use the handle of my pole to punch through it. On top of that is another very thin wind crust, with 4 inches of light density snow all capped off by a wind crust at the surface which made skiing down somewhat difficult. That being said there was variations in the snow pack on the way down, there were places that were looser and others with a stouter wind crust, kind of a mixed bag but not as far gone as the east facing shallower pack.
Photos: Quick pit, you can tell the location of the pit by looking up at the entry chutes, and the stout 1 to 2 inch wind slab I was slipping on which is about 5 or 6 inches down from the surface, if you look close you can spot some facet chains forming on the bottom of it.
