I headed up to Mt. Watson today to see what the snow looked like and maybe get a few turns in some trees. There was about 6 inches of new now wet snow that skied fast enough in the trees. To my surprise there were no wet sides on the east face of Mt.Watson. Maybe because of the lack of snow??? I dug on the east face in a safe zone and found a stout hard layer near the surface but that was isolated. In other areas that were less wind effected that layer was not present and my sled easily penetrated deep in the snow pack. It wasn't go anywhere snow. The snow has quite a bit of liquid water in the upper half and gave me a significant pucker factor. I kept my distance from all the runout zones even though I didn't see any slides past or since the storm. The snow is super thin and getting on the throttle often means riding on rocks. After getting stuck once I was wading up to my waste while digging out. The snow pack is very fragile in most places that are sheltered from wind.
