Went back to South Monitor today, to ski the hang fire from the recent avalanche, bed surface and flank. Still not trusting the new load yet, and no real need to push things, low angle skis well and skiing hang fire is a great strategy if you want to ski the steeper northerly lines. Did note one large collapse on the north facing sub ridge between the Monitors, and a lot of surface hoar growth. South facing did not get a crust yesterday but it might have formed one later today. I guess this is less of a observation and more of my own thoughts on how to ski certain terrain when the hazard is questionable, skiing bed surfaces that have filled in a bit or skiing non avalanched snow close enough to the flank to bail back to the bed surface if need be are age old tricks that work. Photos, a few shots of skiing bed surface and hang fire, surface hoar, and Merry Christmas, wind starting to blast Cardiff in the afternoon. A little late edit my close buddy an experienced back country skier took a ride in Jaws today and broke his leg and was lucky to be alive, sent me a texts saying he should have trusted his own instincts and backed off, patience is a key to living a long life in the mountains

Thought Drew's call on the hazard rating was right on today, seems like some people were gravitating toward moderate but it take time for things to settle out and adjust to the new load, and one day is not much time. Probably keep it at considerable tomorrow too until I see any significant proof otherwise.
