Red Flags Comments
As noted in the forecast this morning, there were a bunch of avalanches over the last few days, with wild weather swings. Avalanches like changes, so it was best to keep on our toes.

Problem #1 Comments

Being that the prevailing winds were from the west during yesterday's high intensity snow event and the Argenta headwall feels like it's leeward to west winds, it was worth paying attention as we ascended the headwall. And the new snow was getting loaded onto - and insulating - the wet snow that got gooey with Saturday's greenhousing. Weird enough to be...a bit weird.

Avalanche Problem #2
Problem #2 Comments

we figured there'd be new snow sluffing, but could it be slabular also? Could sluffing be enough to make "it" step down into that complex layering of goo/crusts?

On quick hand pits we were getting nice clean shears on that goo crust about 18" down, but it took a fair bit to get it to pop. When we and the party we entrained with skied we had some medium-sized sluffing, but no problems. Did yesterday's loading settle out quickly? didn't form a slab due to the trees? Even tho Argenta headwall is not necessarily "safe" per se due to the steepness and openness of the trees, it is a bit more protected than some of the more exposed lines, and I was glad that we were in Argenta vs bigger, more-alpine terrain.
