Comments

Wanted to go to Cardiff Fork from Alta and exit out BCC to get the whole story on the avalanche cycle in the drainage. The slide from Cardiac Pass through Hansens has been documented but I wanted to see for myself what had slid and to what degree before the next storm, hard to tell from the photos I've seen. What was more intriguing was the slides I noted that came off east facing Kestler, three total that buried the summer road with up to ten foot deep debris piles. These slides looked to have occurred earlier in the storm than the Cardiac slide, and hit the heavily traveled summer road not too far up from the trail head. Also noted a large slide off the Reed and Benson ridge west facing directly across from the Catchers Mit that snap small trees and buried the creek. Photos

Cardiac slide from the ridge and the toe off the debris.

East Facing slides off Kestler, three total that all crossed the summer road.

Slide off the Reed and Benson ridge line that buried the creek.

Bad place to mess around building a snowman under the un-avalanched Catchers Mit

Graupel was the theme of the day. Glad I went and got the full story helps with future decisions.

Going with considerable on steep high W through E that hasn't avalanched, moderate in all other terrain.
