Went back to No Name, first of all because I'm just about out of ideas on where to go to find some decent skiing, without a zillion tracks, wind crust, sun crust, and exposed dirt, second reason was to see how much faceting occurred since my last visit 5 days ago. Monday the snow in No Name was rotten but still supportable while skiing, 5 days latter the entire snow- pack has faceted out to the dirt, and become so loose that my tails would clip dirt on every other turn. The facet sluffs were also getting easier to trigger, and entraining more snow as they gouged down to the dirt. Its not going to take a whole lot of snow and wind to overload this exceptionally weak snow pack. Photos, Facet sluffs created by dropping a 12-pack sized cornice, surface hoar on the ridge to No Name.
Wind was blowing fairly hard and moving some snow on my exit at 3pm. Photos, wind on the ridge, wanna be weak storm moving in, and my turns trying to keep it off the dirt.
