A nice early season storm for the Uintas, around 5-6" at 8,500' and upwards of 10" at 10,000'. The higher terrain is slowly getting filled-in, but still many rocks and hazards are visible.

Comments

1.The Mirror Lake Highway is still being plowed.

2. Bald Mtn. Pass

1. Nice to get out and walk around in the snow.

2. This new snow is sitting on fairly weak faceted snow, but only on high elevation north facing slopes.

1. The upper elevations are slowly filling-in, but many rocks are still poking through and not much of a base yet to keep a person off the ground.

2. I was finding some minor instabilities in the new storm snow. The high elevation shady north aspects that did not see much of the warm sunshine last week, have developed some fairly weak faceted snow. I did have some localized collapsing of the snow pack and cracking within the new storm snow. These were minor issues right now with much of the terrain not very well connected, but these are places to keep a close eye on as the winter progresses.
