Comments

Observations from late morning at Wolf Creek Pass. The snow line was down around 7000’, where the first trace of snow stuck to trees. Up on the pass, 5” of new snow helped to buff out some of the old tracks, but ultimately the snowpack is almost nonexistent on many aspects, leaving just the northerly side of things for recreation. Ski cuts on a test slope did not yield results, but some road cut stomping and pole drag tests did show entrainment. Though new snow did seem well bonded to the crust below in hand pits, the wet loose style behavior of the new snow would likely have been more reactive with sufficient slope angle.
