Snow Characteristics Comments
Snow surfaces at lower and mid elevations were frozen this morning. At upper elevations, snow surfaces were soft and we sank down to our knees when stepping off our skis.
Photo of surface hoar in a meadow at 8300' that was melted out on our return trip.

Comments
Snowpit in this location and another hasty pit at 9,000' on a more west facing slope showed a weakening snowpack that is thinner, dryer, and more faceted than what has been found in the upper Cottonwoods.
