It's getting harder to find, but below treeline on shaded slopes, the snow is still soft and rideable.

The main thing is that we've been watching the surface snow weaken and facet. This photo shows buried surfac hoar which is not widespread. It also shows the layers of new snow we keep getting which have only been an inch or two or just a trace.
In general there are about 15 cm (6 inches) of facets that are mostly 1mm in size.
The funny thing is that many big alpine bowls may not have as much weak surface snow becuase they've been blasted by the wind. It's smaller, more sheltered terrain where I will worry about avalanches when snow returns. The photos below show some examples.
