No tests performed,
Quick afternoon walk up scotties notch, then back down the west aspect. More new snow than expected (just a few cms though). Low cloud layer at 7500-9300 or so was causing some riming on trees but not much on the snow surface. Light wind and below freezing temps kept the snow surface nice for riding. New snow was somewhat reactive and, if the slope was steep enough (over ~35) would start entraining but wasn't running too far/fast. didnt get above the trees and did not notice any wind slabs or wind affected snow. The near surface facets combined with the mf crust layer ~10cm down made travel frustrating at times on west aspects where the crust was present. It will be interesting to see what the upper mf crust and weaker snow underneath do when (if... at this point it seems like we might never get a real storm again...) we get a large enough load to cause it to collapse.
Facets near the ground seemed to be trending in the right direction but are still present.
Great riding wherever the near surface mf crust was not present!
