We were hoping for a refresh today. Unfortunately, wind and rime was the theme of the day, rather than a refresh. We rode a bunch of areas today in search of decent riding conditions. We found the wind had done a number to most exposed snow at all elevations but especially upper elevations and ridgelines. The 2-4 inches of new snow was also capped by a nice zipper crust everywhere beside thicker trees. We rode west, north and east facing slopes between 7200 and 9000 feet. The best riding conditions we found were upper elevation north facing trees.
We did not notice any signs of avalanches today. We jumped on some steep north facing slopes without any problems. However, this new rime crust will likely cause some problems with the next loading event. The snow structure does seem to be deteriorating in the upper foot of snow.
We also notice a bunch of snowmobile tracks in closed areas... There were snowmobile (and Timbersled) tracks on Chicken Hill (south), White Pine Knob (north) and Steam Mill 3rd bowl (last picture below)
