As much as we would have loved to be out today playing in the new snow, we tried to be responsible idiots...I mean adults, and stay home. It was rough. This evening right before the sun set, the clouds cleared for a few minutes and we were able to capture a few pics through binoculars of avalanches along the west facing slopes of the the Bear River Range. The pics aren't great but we were able to witness natural avalanches everywhere. They looked very large and widespread along most of the range we could see. We saw slides at the upper end of Smithfield canyon (backside of Cornice Ridge), Upper Birch Canyon, Smithfield Dry Canyon, and others. Possibly 100's of yards wide and i would guess fairly deep since the crowns were easily viewed through binoculars from across the valley. I guess it was a good reminder of why we stayed home today. Be safe out there all!
