Sorry, we didn't stop long enough today to even think about taking any photos. And it was nuking all day too, so there's that. It was a gnarly and beautiful day in the mountains today. It was so nice to actually see it looking like winter for the first time this year! We were super conservative and careful today, realizing that the snowpack was sketchy as it ever gets. We rode in at around 9:30 a.m.on a ton of new snow (I'm guessing 14") and it continued dumping until we left around 2.
We noticed cracking and buckling on a few slightly steeper rollovers and I have no doubt in my mind that if the slope was steep enough it would have gone big. Super sensitive and touchy snowpack. We also noticed some small sympathetic releases around 40-50’ away, again on slightly steeper rollovers that were not steep enough to slide. This new load is going to cause a lot of problems.
Surprisingly there were a bunch of snowmobilers out and about in the hurricane, but for the most part people were just getting stuck in the flats. No one had ventured onto steeper terrain yet. It will definitely be a while before we dare venture on to steeper slopes.
