This a bit of a late report, but thought I'd throw it on here anyway. We rode on Friday near Steep Hollow where the snowbiker was caught in the avalanche. Passed the group of 3 heading in when we were headed out. We found very weak, faceted snow in the few hand pits we dug and stayed on very mellow terrain....and now I'm especially glad we did.
Saturday, we decided to change it up a bit from the meadow skipping that we've been doing and went for a little tromp through the snow on the snowshoes and make some snow art. We set up for a couple of hours in a low angled meadow near Logan Canyon. We have spent a lot of time in the backcountry over the years and I don't think that I've ever heard the snowpack so angy! It was constant whoomphing, collapsing, and cracking. It was amazing how many times this area collapsed on us. I was pretty glad that we decided to walk around the flatlands today instead of tempting ourselves with the nice looking upper elevation powder that is waiting to mess somebody up.
