Professional Level 1 Bridge Course

This course is designed for students who have completed a level 2 avalanche course and would like to have Professional Level 1 equivalency. This is a 2-day course, complete with skills review, as well as testing. During this course, students will practice using morning and evening hazard assessment worksheets. Students will have the opportunity to practice snow profiles before being tested on them on day two. They will also take weather plot observations before being tested on these on day two. A detailed terrain analysis exercise will be part of this course.

Students should come prepared to pass a rescue drill where they locate and excavate two buried beacons in 7 minutes. Students should also come prepared to dig snowpits, identify layers, and execute stability tests.

This is a pass/fail course, with an educational focus.

Students will be tested on:

  • Snow profile
  • Rescue proficiency
  • Weather Observations
  • Written exam

Prerequisites

  • Level 2 avalanche course taken before the 2017/2018 winter season
