Forecast for the Skyline Area Mountains

Friday morning, March 3, 2017
The avalanche danger is generally LOW right now. Watch out for mid elevation steep facing sunny slopes as they heat up during the day. We may see some wet avalanche activity here. Very steep easterly facing slopes around the 10,000' range with recent deposits of wind blown snow also have a minor chance of producing avalanches.

Weather and Snow
Temperatures were a bit warmer on Thursday compared to Wednesday. This made the snow become more damp at lower elevations as well as many sunny aspects. I wouldn't say that the mountain temperatures were overly warm. The wind was light to moderate in speed from the west. Lots of good powder remains for riding.
Recent Avalanches
I noted a couple of avalanches that released during the increase in wind late on Tuesday. This is old news but it does give us a clue about how the snow has stabilized. The avalanches were on northeast facing slopes and most likely released due to cornice falls during the increase in wind which easily drifted powder snow from west facing slopes to east facing slopes. Stability has increased a lot since these natural avalanches occurred and is seems fairly unlikely for a person to trigger something at this point.
