Comments
We dug in a more wind-protected area on a north facing slope at 9990'. Total depth of snow was 5' with 25.5" of new snow. We had some density changes within the new snow and got failures at those layers (they should heal up soon). We got propagation at the new/old snow interface and the weakest snow was about a foot off the ground and associated with crust. We had no results at this faceted crust layer with stability tests in this location. I still don't trust this layer of facets about a foot off the ground and would be wary of steeper slopes with this structure or areas with more wind-loading (more weight) on this structure.
Photo of a series of what we believe to be natural avalanches (potentially connected) that occurred overnight likely during peak snowfall and wind periods. These avalanches occurred on a north-east facing slope around 10,200'. Get more info HERE.
