The PRO 1 covers topics essential to the workplace; including avalanche rescue, identifying and characterizing avalanche terrain, understanding how avalanches form and release, collecting and analyzing weather, snow, and avalanche data, and communicating hazard and risk factors.

AIARE is proud to offer professional avalanche training designed to promote safety for all avalanche workers. As a long-time curriculum developer working with the American Avalanche Association, we are committed to our mission of “saving lives through avalanche education.”

The evaluation criteria are taught and coached by the instructors and then evaluated through guidelines established by the A3. All PRO 1 students conduct daily operational forecast meetings, apply effective communication strategies, and debrief field observations and decisions. The course includes pre-course reading, class presentations and field exercises and daily travel near or in avalanche terrain.

This course will be based out of Snowbird, UT. The classroom will be proximal to field locations near Snowbird Ski Resort and the surrounding backcountry. Lift access will be provided to facilitate learning objectives on certain days and is included in the price of the course. Students will receive specific location information from their instructors prior to the first day of class. This course is limited to 12 participants.
